Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) in collaboration with Boğaziçi University will award best paper prizes to three outstanding research papers as ISE celebrates 25th anniversary of its establishment
Purpose
To encourage scientific research on stock and securities exchanges, to help new works to be introduced to the world of science, universities and the society through rewarding new and authentic research papers on the above mentioned issues, and to support methods and views that offer innovative scientific solutions to problems.
Topics
Research papers focusing on securities/stocks exchanges are particularly welcome. The papers may address any of the following topics:
- Stock Exchange Industry and Recent Trends, including but not limited to:
- Exchange Technologies
- Impact of technological advances on the industrY
- Analysis of trading systems and liquidity, high frequency/algorithmic trading, Direct market access, latency and co-location, dark pools
- Competition in the stock exchange industry
- Changing structure of stock exchanges
- Interaction between stock exchanges
- Cooperation between stock exchanges: electronic linkages, common trading platforms etc.
- Clearing and settlement
- Financing, including but not limited to:
- Initial public offerings and private equity
- Family firms: listing and institutionalization
- SMEs
- Corporate governance, shareholder rights, investor relations
- Financial Markets, including but not limited to:
- New products and market structures
- Institutional investors
Prizes
The awards for the top three papers will be 10,000 USD, 7,500 USD, 5,000 USD, respectively.*
• If two papers are found worthy of the first prize, the best two papers with equal points will share the first and second prizes.
• If two papers are found worthy of the second prize, the two papers with equal points which are ranked the second will share the second and third prizes.
• If two papers are found worthy of the third prize, the two papers with equal points which are ranked the third will share the third prize.
The winners will be awarded their prizes at ISE 25th Anniversary Celebrations, which will take place in December, 2010 in İstanbul. The author of the top-prize winning paper will present her/his paper in the presence of distinguished guests. The travel and accomodation expenses of winners will be covered by ISE, in accordance with pre-defined guidelines.
ISE reserves the right whether to publish whole or part of the prize-winning papers or not. Other research papers that are found to be eligible for publishing by the jury may be published in a special volume of ISE Review and/or Boğaziçi Journal with the consent of the authors. Prize-winning authors should include the statement “This research paper was awarded the Best/Second Best/Third Best Paper Prize in the ISE 25th Anniversary Best Paper Competition (2010)” in their papers, should they desire to publish their papers in another journal.

The juri retains the right not to award the prizes and/or to reduce the amounts of the prizes awarded. The decision of the juri is final and shall not be subject to any dispute inside or outside any court. ISE retains the right of first publication of the juri’s decision, of the title of the prize-winning papers, and of its author(s)’ name(s).
Criteria to be relied upon in Evaluating Research Papers
• Distinctive evaluation using scientific methods
• The way the research is handled and the success of its conclusions
• Innovative feature
• Permitting to draw conclusions for ISE from the subject addressed
Application Terms
• The competition is open to everyone except the ISE staff.
• Papers already published in academic journals will not be taken into consideration in the competition.
• Submitted papers shall be written in English and shall not exceed 40 pages (excluding abstract, appendices and references). Shorter papers are strongly encouraged.
• The text of the research to be delivered should have been written in accordance with the scientific writing rules.
• Where a research is conducted by more than one person and is awarded a prize, the amount of the prize will be given to the person who delivers the research as he/she will be deemed as the participant of the competition.
Schedule
Submission deadline for papers is August 22nd, 2010 before midnight (Istanbul local time, GMT+3). Papers, accompanied by the curricula vitae of the author(s), should be submitted to ise.competition@boun.edu.tr. These documents will not be returned to the applicants.
Prize-winning papers will be announced on November 24th, 2010.
*Taxes on prizes, if any, are covered solely by the winners.
